News coming in indicate that Igara county legislator Michael Mawanda will tonight sleep inside Natete Police station over his involvement in the cooperative compensation money worthy Shs164billions.
Mawanda who is a member and one of the top bosses of Muhoozi’s Patriotic League of Uganda and is even the Group’s Head of the Disciplinary Committee was invited at the Criminal Investigation Department for questioning about how deep his involvement was but he was instead detained and will sleep in police cells.
His arrest comes at a time when members of parliament are living in fear and those who believe are involved in any dark and thin corruption dealings are panicking.
Three of their colleagues are already in jail over corruption.
Legislators Yusuf Mutembuli of Bunyole East, Cissy Namujju for Lwengo District and Paul Akamba of Busiki County were last week arrested, arraigned in court and sent to the cold gates of Luzira prisons.
Prosecution alleges that the three in a meeting at Hotel Africana last month asked Uganda Human Rights Commission’s Mariam Wangadya a kickback of 20% of the enhanced budget of the commission.
Last Friday Namujju and Mutembuli were denied bail, Akamba managed to secure a Shs13 million cash bail but was free for a few minutes.
His freedom was short-lived when non uniformed men with guns stormed the court entrance, grabbed him by the collars and bundled him inside a private vehicle and drove him away.
Namujju and Mutembuli were on Monday denied bail again and were also committed to the high court to face trial as prosecution said all the implicating evidence and investigations have been concluded.
It was revealed by Speaker of Parliament during today’s plenary that MP Paul Akamba was re-arrested on fresh charges and is to be held at the CID headquarters undergoing rounds of interrogations over the Corporative cash scandal which Mawanda is equally facing.
