
The electoral commission has released the program for the by election for Woman MP of Dakolo district.
The seat fell, vacant following the death of Hon . Barbra Cecilia Atim Ogwal from FDC party.
The program was released by EC Chairperson, Simon Byabakama in stakeholders engagement meeting held at Dokolo Technical school main hall on Monday.
According to Byabakama, the program will start with the recruitment of officials to conduct the display of voters register, training of officers and displaying of voters register among others.
The campaign period will be from March 13th to 19th March.
He added that the election for woman mp and sub county councillors shall be conducted on 21st March .
Byabakama revealed that there are more vacancies in Sub counties.
The commissioner called on stakeholders in Dokolo district to participate in the activities in accordance with the guidelines.
He also warned candidate against holding campaigns in public places like Road side among others.
Byabakama adds that for free and fair election to be conducted, they will engage various stake holders to participate tasking candidate to adhere to the guide lines.
He commended the fallen iron Lady Cecilia Atim Ogwal as a peace maker and asked the aspirant candidates to emulate the lifestyle of Cecilia Atim Ogwal by carrying out campaigns peacefully.
The returning officer for Dokolo district Erikwaine Gobi assured all people of Dokolo of having free and fair election.
Gobi noted that Dokolo district has two constituency that’s North and south with fourteen Sub counties including town council and 71 Parish and 173 polling station with 448 villages.
Gobi called for peace, love, unity and harmony among voters.
Paul Bukenya ,the EC, spokesperson called for cooperation among participants asking Candidate to show maximum discipline in all the process.
The time frame for conducting election is 60 days as stipulated in the Law and as of now the campaign period shall run for one week only.
The by-election will be conducted before the 24 march ,2024.
Vacancies for Sub counties shall also be included in the By- election.
Others vacancies are from the parish in kwera .
The commission has commenced with the roadmap/timeframe of Updating the voters register in the district of Dokolo for all the 173 polling station.
So far twelve candidates came out to contest in Dokolo by election
