The Rukungiri District Police Commander (DPC) SSP. Musa Tibakirana has been transferred to Kampala Metropolitan North sitting in Kawempe as Deputy RPC in the new reshuffle made by IGP Abbas Byakagaba.
The reshuffle comes a few days after IGP held a long and secret meeting with President Museveni at State House Entebbe.
Police sources claim that SSP. Kyangungu Apollo, former DPC for Amudat district who was enrolled in a course in Kyankwanzi at the time of his appointment, will replace SSP. Tibakirana.
Speaking with our reporter about his transfer, SSP. Tibakirana expressed gratitude to the people and authorities of Rukungiri district for their cooperative efforts since his arrival in September 2021, which has resulted in the restoration of peace and order.
According to Tibakirana, Rukungiri is known for a variety of crimes, including theft and murder, but during his time, the police handled the majority of these cases skilfully, collaborating with local leaders and residents.
SSP. Tibakirana expressed gratitude to Security Minister Hon. Jim Muhwezi, RDC, DISO, Rukungiri MPs, and chairperson LC5, Lc3 chairpersons, Radio stations, Religious leaders and the general public for their contribution to the district’s progress during his tenure.
Residents of Rukungiri are urged by SSP. Tibakirana to work with the new DPC in order to maintain the district’s security and tranquillity.

SSP. Tibakirana served in Rukungiri for over three years and he was replacing SP. Kintu Henry by then, before he was promoted to the rank of SSP.
SSP. Tibakirana served as the OC Kisubi police station, DPC for Kiruhura district, Fort portal, Kyegegwa, then to Rukungiri district and finally appointed as Deputy RPC Kampala Metropolitan North.
During his time in Rukungiri, a group of armed robbers assaulted the town and fled with millions of money from one of the electronic shops along Rubabo road.
After the incident, SSP. Tibakirana commanded a group of officers to Nyakibale, where they set up camp.
Thirty minutes later, one of the suspects was captured in possession of a gun that had recently shot at two persons.
Sadly, the two gunshot victims both passed away, but the community and authorities had proof of the sacrifice made by the police to keep them safe.
Panga-wielding attackers also attacked and injured a Red Cross employee that same night, nearly amputating his arm.
SSP. Tibakirana commanded a team of officers who set up a roadblock at Kahengye Bridge, which connects Rukungiri to Ntungamo district, and were able to capture the suspect along with panga and four phones, one of which was taken from the victim.
In addition, he battled against the vice of criminal gangs stealing number plates off cars.
By employing his abilities, Tibakirana managed to have all of the thugs involved in this practice arrested and brought before the courts, which put an end to the activity.
