Samuel Engola, a candidate for the NRM party in the Oyam North By-election, will have his campaign formally concluded by His Excellency the President of the Republic of Uganda.
On Sunday, July 2, 2023, at the Oyam Boma stadium, party secretary general Richard Todwong acknowledged the development to the media.
President Museveni will be promoting the party’s candidate Samuel Engola on the last day of campaigning, according to Todwong, and will speak at two rallies.
Todwong claimed that the president would first pay his respects to the late minister for labor, development, and industrial relations, RTD COL Charles Okello Engola Mac-Odwogo, at his residence before speaking to the crowd to urge support for the candidate.
Tuesday will see the president visit the late minister’s home to offer his respects before moving on to other locations to solicit support for the party’s nominee, according to Todwong.
The president made a number of promises during the general election campaign, and he may be wanting to evaluate the promises that have been kept in the Oyam North Constituency, the speaker continued.
“I anticipate that some of the promises made during the general election will have been kept, and I understand that others have already been done so,” Todwong continued, “I guess he is coming to rally support for Engola Samuel and to assess the performance of the government in keeping the promises it made during the general election.”
The Oyam People should send someone who can talk to the president to remind him of the commitments he made during the general campaign, according to Emmanuel Dombo, the NRM party’s press director.
He asserted that the decision on the development to be brought to the NRM party caucus, which solely consists of NRM party Mps, is always made.
Richard Todwong, the secretary general of the NRM, Dr. Tanga Odoi, director of mobilization Rosemary Ssenide, Emmanuel Dombo, the secretary of communication, and Willy Kagere Omodo, among others, have been present in Oyam for the past two weeks.
The election in Oyam North is slated for July 6th, 2023, and the electoral commission body has set Tuesday, July 4th, 2023 as the campaign deadline.
