The launching of extension of maternity ward at Bugangari Health (IV) in Bugangari Sub County Rukungiri district excited residents on 10th November 2023.

Nsubuga Bewayo Stephen, the Rukungiri Resident District Commissioner (RDC), and other district officials launched the construction exercise.

In an effort to reduce infant mortality in the area, the Joint Medical Stores (JMS) provided funding for the addition of the Ugx. 173M maternity wing where Rwenkurijo Constructions Company Limited will carry out the construction work.

The development comes at a time when the number of expectant mothers turning up at the facility to deliver is overwhelming.

After the extension, the new maternity wing at Bugangari Health Center IV can house 39 women, compared to the previous maternity ward’s capacity of just nine.

Rukungiri Resident District Commissioner Nsubuga Bewayo Steven gave a speech during the construction launch, expressing thanks for the facility’s construction and emphasizing how the increase in bed capacity from nine to thirty-nine when completion will be very beneficial.

Bewayo urged workers at Bugangari Health Centre (IV) to place a high value on cooperation, just as local legislators and district leadership do, as this will enable them to provide high-quality services to the public.

He also advised the contractor to make sure that he completes work to a high standard and to meet the deadline.

According to Hon. Natukunda, communities that have these amenities typically grow faster since their citizens don’t have to spend a lot of money traveling great distances in search of better healthcare because they live in a disease-free environment.

Additionally, she urged the medical staff to treat expecting mothers with respect, pointing them that God called them to be of tremendous service.
