Hon. Maj. Gen. Jim Muhwezi, Minister of Security and Rujumbura County Member of Parliament, has stated that security authorities are looking for rebels accused of killing 41 people, largely students, in the country’s worst attack.

Minister Jim Muhwezi made the revelation today, Sunday, June 18, 2023, as the chief guest at a fundraising for the construction of a priest’s house at Nyakanyinya Sub Parish in Ruhinda Sub County Rukungiri district.

Suspected rebels stormed Lhubiriha Secondary School in Kasese near the Congo border on Friday night, killing at least 41 people.

After extremists armed with firearms and machetes attacked the school, some pupils were charred beyond recognition, while others were shot or cut to death.

However, during the fundraising function in Ruhinda Sub County today, Minister Muhwezi disclosed that the rebels who stormed the school are inferiors since students are defenseless and unable to defend themselves.

He stated that Ugandans are safe and secure, asking them to remain steady since security services are capable of tracking down rebels wherever they are.
