The Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) today Thursday recruited 105 youths into the army from districts of Rukungiri and Kanungu respectively.
UPDF implemented a novel strategy whereby individuals were first shortlisted and then recruited, with consideration given to the necessary quotas.
Speaking during the recruitment exercise that was held at DISO’s office in Rukungiri municipality, Brig. Gen. Stephen Mugerwa the team nine leader assured the public of the systematic and transparent interview stages to get the good soldiers upon completion of training programs.
Brig. Gen. Mugerwa emphasized that no standard will be compromised in due course and that the UPDF will always work to uphold its dignity.
He reminded the recruits that they should defend people and their property when they enlist in the army and to be disciplined.
“We wish the successful candidates the best of the exercise and eventual entrance into serving the people of Uganda and Africa,” Brig. Gen. Mugerwa said.

Speaking with our reporter, a few parents and guardians who attended with their children conveyed their appreciation to the UPDF strategic leadership for implementing a novel strategy of shortlisting applicants following official advertisements featuring projections on the necessary quotas, which provided a foundation for the most guidance.
After Rukungiri district, the team will conduct the same exercise in Bushenyi district whereby they will take two days and after to Mbarara in Kakyeka where they will spend three to four days as they conclude the recruitment exercise.
Local leaders and Christopher Wachaya, the District Internal Security Officer (DISO) for Rukungiri, were present during the recruitment.
