VIDEO: Radio Rukungiri pulls massive crowds on Silver Jubilee celebrations

In the Rukungiri district’s biggest stadium on Saturday, August 12, 2023, Radio Rukungiri celebrated 25 years of operation.

The celebrations, which attracted people from all around Uganda, featured performances by the B2C, Gravity, and other western Ugandan artists.

Football matches between radio Rukungiri employees and Kanungu FM and Voice of Kigezi, which all resulted in victories for radio Rukungiri, served as the opening act for the celebrations.

Maj. Gen. Jim Katugugu Muhwezi, the minister of security and the Member of Parliament for Rujumbura County who also serves as the founder of radio Rukungiri 96.9fm, thanked the general manager and all of the radio Rukungiri staff members for continuously working hard and tirelessly to provide the best services to the listeners during the event.

Minister Muhwezi further emphasized that Radio Rukungiri was the first radio station in the Kigezi region and that its mission was to advance comradely, growth, and the right to free speech.

He welcomed all other station managers from other radio stations who had joined in the celebration with radio Rukungiri and urged them to continue supporting each other and cooperating with one another to provide excellent service to the public.

He also pledged to enhance radio frequencies so that they could be heard in remote areas.

The Rukungiri RDC, Stephen Nsubuga Bewayo, congratulated General Muhwezi for establishing the station, which has fostered development, provided employment opportunities for people, and assisted in free advertising for government programs.

He added by urging everyone to vote for candidates who can promote development and represent them in the parliament well, such as Gen. Jim Muhwezi.

Brother Ben, the general manager of the radio station where he has worked for 25 years, congratulated the guest of honor and the founder for accepting the invitation and for the wise idea of launching radio Rukungiri.

Kwikiriza also expressed gratitude to the managers of all other radio stations, including Kanungu FM, Country Fm, and Voice of Kigezi, for supporting the silver jubilee celebration ceremony.

He emphasized that over the course of 25 years, radio Rukungiri has given people work opportunities, encouraged free speech, and fostered community since it is the voice of development.
