Students who successfully complete Patriotism training are encouraged to volunteer in their communities to promote hygiene and sanitation as well as battle environmental degradation, according to Rukungiri Resident District Commissioner Steven Nsubuga Bewayo.

RDC Nsubuga made the revelation yesterday, Sunday, July 2, 2023 during the passing and presentation of certificates of participation to the 128 Katurika Secondary School students in Buhunga Sub County, Rukungiri District who successfully completed a 7-day Patriotism course.

The patriotic slogan, according to Bewayo, is “Love yourself, love your environment, and love your country,” which gives patriotic a responsibility to work toward creating a hospitable nation.

The Rukungiri District Patriotism Coordinator Vital Bashasha urged institution leaders to take a patriotism course because they value the rule of law and discipline.

Jackson Byamukama, a board member at Katurika Secondary School, urged the government to “prioritize” patriotism since it inspires students to do well in school and defend the nation.

Sam Muhumuza, the head of the school, thanked the government for establishing the course and noted that the administration benefited greatly.

He also said that the participants showed traits that may make them effective change agents both within and outside of the classroom.
