
RUKUNGIRI-Counsel Isaac Atukunda, who plans to run for Rukungiri municipality parliamentary seat come 2026, has launched scholarship funds for primary education to about fifteen children from Rukungiri municipality.
Counsel Isaac Atukunda is now giving scholarships to these children who are performing well in their respective schools but their parents are not able to provide fees.
Yesterday saw the inauguration of “Atukunda Education Trust” at Heritage Country Hotel Rukungiri where these scholarships will cover up to Primary seven for children chosen from different parts of Rukungiri municipality.
Speaking at the occasion, Counsel Isaac Atukunda praised President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and the NRM government for implementing Universal Primary Education (UPE), which provides free schooling to all children.
Drawing on his own experiences and accomplishments, Counsel Atukunda disclosed that he founded “Atukunda Education Trust” to assist education within Rukungiri municipality as a way of giving back to his home people.
He urged the general public to prioritize education of children in a bid to nurture a future generation that is empowered to bring a positive impact to the society.
“By investing in the education of our youth, we firmly believe that we are laying the foundation for a society that is not only knowledgeable, but also empowered to create a positive change.” Counsel Isaac noted.
Addressing parents and Primary school head teachers from different schools within Rukungiri municipality during the launch, Counsel Isaac assured them of his commitment towards transforming education standards in the area, through various programs including “Atukunda Education Trust” for scholarships.
He persuaded others who could afford to pay the children’s school fees to come forward and work with him so that more kids may receive free primary education in addition to schooling at later levels.
Counsel Isaac Atukunda narrated that he is not only aiming at transforming Rukungiri municipality through education but also providing safe and drinking water, improving road networks, health, electricity among others calling for support from residents.

Rukungiri Municipal Education Officer Alfred Katabazi Mutuuza applauded the effort for its potential to improve education by helping parents who are having financial difficulties in paying for their children’s fees.
In order to take advantage of this chance, Katabazi also advised the beneficiaries’ parents to raise their children to be well-behaved learners.

The speaker for Rukungiri Municipality, Mrs. Constance Tumusiime, who also serves as Team Counsel Isaac’s general secretary, praised Isaac for his creative development ideas and pledged their support for better service delivery.

Turyamuhebwa Babra, Tugumisirize Sarah, and Kamusiime Lydia, some of parents who benefited from the project, thanked Counsel Isaac for conceiving it, explaining that it was difficult for them to obtain school fees to send their children to school.
