RUKUNGIRI: Excitement as DPF donates vocational items to Nyakibale Lower P/S Special Needs Section

The Deposit Protection Fund of Uganda (DPF), a government agency that works in collaboration with the country’s various commercial banks, has donated items worth Shs. 22M to deaf pupils at Nyakibale Lower Primary School in Southern Division, Rukungiri municipality as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative.

Knitting machines, knitting threads, machine oil, needles, and two metallic suitcases totaling UGX 21,217,420 were among the vocational equipment handed over to the school today, Tuesday, June 27, 2023. 

Patrick O Ezaga, the Director of Communications, said that the Nyakibale Lower Primary School deaf division was identified based on its vulnerability within the district on behalf of Mrs. Julia Clare Oyet, the Chief Executive Officer of the Deposit Protection Fund of Uganda.

Ezaga indicated that the assistance is part of the Shs. 50 million annual budgets of the community’s Social and Corporate Responsibility (CSR).

He also stated that the Deposit Protection Fund (DPF) is certain that the donation will pave the path for inclusive learning for children with special needs and aid in their future development.

On behalf of the foundation body of Nyakibale Lower Primary School, Rev. Fr. Silverio Twinomujuni, the Nyakibale Catholic Parish Priest, thanked development partners for their assistance to young children who are considered impoverished in society.

Byarugaba Henry, the head teacher of Nyakibale Lower Primary School, vowed to make full use of the donated items for the benefit of the students.

The Deposit Protection Fund of Uganda (DPF) is a government agency that provides deposit insurance to customers of deposit-taking institutions licensed by Bank of Uganda.

The Deposit protection Fund of Uganda (DPF), which is also referred to as the Fund, was established as a separate legal entity following the enactment of the Financial Institutions (Amended) Act, 2016. Prior to this, DPF was managed by Bank of Uganda.

The process of operationalizing the Fund commenced in April 2017 with the inauguration of the Board of Directors by Honorable Minister of Finance, Planning and Economic Development.
