On the morning of July 11, a tragic bus accident along the congested Kampala-Fort Portal Road claimed the life of the driver, Kawawu Dauda, and injured numerous others.
According to the authorities, a Link Bus Services coach traveling to Kampala rear-ended a disabled Mercedes trailer fatally at Mukunyu in the Kyenjojo District at around 9:15 a.m.
According to SP Twesige Vincent, Public Relations Officer for Rwenzori West Police, the bus was moving at a high rate of speed when it forcefully crashed into the immovable trailer and was unable to stop in time where the driver died immediately.
A number of stunned passengers were sent to Kyenjojo Hospital for medical attention. The precise number of injured people is still unknown.
The severely damaged bus, with the license plate M/V UAY 485E, suffered severe front-end damage.
UAV 326W, the trailer it struck, sustained significant damage as a result of the incident.
