A total of nine teams in different sports activities have today been flagged off to represent Rukungiri district in this year’s National Sports competitions for Secondary Schools.
National sports competitions will kick off on Wednesday 10th July 2024 until 18th July 2024 in Soroti district.
Speaking to the participants before flagging them off at Rukungiri district headquarters, Ahimbisibwe Wilberforce Ongom the Deputy Resident District Commissioner Rukungiri rallied the team to exhibit discipline and perform with the aim of winning trophies.
Ongom advised teachers who accompanied students should take care of them so they can return when they are safe.
He continued by giving students advice on how to win such sporting events by representing the district rather than engaging in immoral behavior.

The chairperson for Rukungiri District Secondary School head teacher Mrs. Allen Kiyasimire, explained that it is the duty of head teachers to foster talent in their schools, pushing them to do so for the good of the students.
Kiyasimire continued by advising the students who traveled to represent Rukungiri to behave honorably and be disciplined while competing at the national level.

The Rukungiri district sports committee chairperson, Ahimbisibwe Dan Bahamire, reports that four teams from St. Jerome SS Ndama, three from Immaculate Heart Girls School Nyakibale, one from Makobore, and the district team for athletes are among the teams that have been flagged off.
He disclosed that Rukungiri is the only district in the Kigezi Sub region out of six to have an athlete’s team that will compete at the national level.
Students were urged by Ahimbisibwe to compete with the belief that they would triumph and return home with trophies.

Some of the students, including Ahabwe Mark, Ahimbisibwe Osbert, Atuheire Rebecca, and Kamukama Rachel, told our reporter that they are confident in their ability to compete at the national level in different sports activities and that they must win.
