
The office of Rukungiri Resident District Commissioner (RDC) has directed all heads of Secondary Schools to revive patriotism clubs, as a measure to help instill a sense of love for the country among students.
The Deputy RDC Rukungiri, Mr. Ahimbisibwe Wilberforce Ongom, verified the development on Thursday while giving a patriotism lecture to senior one and five students from Kashenyi Secondary School in Ruhinda Sub County.
DRDC Ongom noted that introducing learners to Patriotism at an early age could help to restrain students from involvement in violent activities like strikes.
He said that heads of Secondary schools in Rukungiri should introduce learners to patriotism skills and challenged the students to develop a heart of love towards their country.
Ongom noted that the essence of patriotism is to instill a sense of ownership and develop mindset change among students.

DRDC Ongom added that patriotism in schools will help to educate young generation on the principles of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) government with a view to empowering them appreciate the efforts that are being expended by Government to eradicate household poverty.

Speaking with our reporter, Byaruhanga Rogers, Twinatsiko David and Nayera Tracy some of the students told our reporter that patriotism in schools will help to develop themselves in addition of having hopes to change their lifestyles.

Patriotism is a universalized government program that was launched by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni in February 2009.
The program is intended to teach norms and values of patriotism among the youth and students in secondary schools to give ideological orientation.
