RUKUNGIRI: Tusaidiane Trust Uganda Donates Ugx. 100M water project in Ruhinda Sub County

Residents and the entire community of Rwoya Primary school in Ndere Parish, Ruhinda Sub County Rukungiri district on Thursday celebrated a momentous occasion during the commissioning of the Water Purifier Project implemented by Tusaidiane Trust Uganda a non-government project (NGO).

The Ugx. 100M initiative is poised to provide clean drinking water to pupils at Rwoya Primary School and over 200 households within the area to improve the community’s public health.

The project comprises of six tanks each store 1,000litres of water, two community taps water containing water for drinking and another one with water for domestic use all stationed at Rwoya Primary School.

During the commissioning ceremony, Mr. Kees Ebskamp the chairman Board of GovernorsTusaidiane Trust who was the chief guest during the commission revealed that they are intending to improve community well-being through such project that seek to address water challenges in the area.

“This project signifies a significant stride towards enhancing the well-being of this community. It is symbolic of our plans commitment to increasing access to sustainable water, sanitation, and hygiene services, particularly in marginalized communities,” stated Kees.

Kees went on to say that the idea for the initiative originated when they were visiting Rwoya Primary School donating textbooks and the locals expressed worry to them about not having access to clean, safe water, so they decided to step in.

He continued by saying that the community’s access to safe and clean water has resulted in 90 percent decrease in the incidence of diseases caused by contaminated water.

According to Ms. Tushabe Rachael of Tusaidiane Trust Uganda, the project was completed in two phases: the first phase dealt with clean drinking water and domestic water.

According to Tushabe, their purified water is 99 percent safe to drink. The project cost more than Ugx. 100 million where the community donated Ugx. 18 million.

The project organizer, Hon. Vanansio Bagateireyo, said that the project will lessen the area’s water crisis and urged the locals to maintain the project so that it can endure longer.

Vanansio expressed gratitude to the people of Rwoya for their outstanding financial contributions to the church’s and school’s development initiatives.

The headmaster of Rwoya Primary School, Julius Turinawe, thanked the Tusaidiane Trust for their assistance. He underlined that the school and the neighborhood had seen a considerable decrease in waterborne illnesses as a result of the water project.

Additionally, he complimented the Ugandan government for granting non-governmental organizations permission to operate there, citing the positive effects of their presence on community and education sector development.

The parish priest of Rwamagaya Parish in Ruhinda Sub County, Rev. Fr. Charles Mugabi, praised the assistance provided to Rwoya Primary School and the community.

He emphasized that the facility will guarantee access to clean water even though the community will provide some funding for upkeep.

There are some Rwoya community members who are hopeful that the completed water project would improve access to water and sanitation.
