Five people lost their lives in a terrible occurrence that was reported by the territorial police in Katwe and Ndejje. The wall around the Good Luck Petrol Station collapsed, falling upon buildings rented by Ms. Nalumansi Proscovia.
The sad incident happened in Kanyanya Cell, Ndejje Parish, Ndejje Division, Makindye Sabagabo, Wakiso District, on Monday morning at around 3am in the morning. Phiona Nabulumba, Nabunywa Geofrey, Moja Fuuku, three-year-old Liana, and Doreen have been named as the victims.
“Upon receiving the report, our dedicated Fire Prevention and Rescue services, supported by the local community, promptly initiated rescue efforts. Regrettably, five lives were lost in the tragic event,” Luke Owoyesigyire the KMP Deputy Spokesperson revealed.
“Two individuals, Mukisa Gladys and Sadat, sustained severe injuries and are currently receiving medical attention at different hospitals. The rescue team, assisted by an excavator, is diligently working to confirm if there are additional individuals trapped under the rubble,” ASP Luke Owoyesigyire added.
In order to identify the underlying reason of this regrettable occurrence, Katwe Police has initiated a thorough investigation, even as rescue efforts persist. According to preliminary research, the gasoline station’s surrounding wall collapsed as a result of intense rain, which eventually caused it to collapse into the rental units.
The deceased’s remains have been formally sent to City Mortuary Mulago for an extensive postmortem assessment.
In order to support the current investigation, Owoyesigyire asked the people to work with the authorities and submit any pertinent information.
