The death toll from a fire that gutted a dormitory at Kasaana Junior School in Nyendo-Mukungwe Division, Masaka City, has reached four.

Eleven pupils were hurt in the 4:00 a.m. incident as well.

Authorities of the school said that 15 pupils from the Top and Primary One classes were housed in the dormitory.

Arnold Tumwesige and Hillary Walugembe, the most recent casualties, died as a result of the wounds they received in the destructive fire.

According to Greater Masaka Regional Police Spokesperson Jamada Wandera, the two students passed away at Kampala’s Kirubu Hospital after being referred there.

The pre-primary pupils Shahib Mwanje, Ssendagire Jordan, Poel Ssenoga, Grant Matovu, Muganga Martin, Alpha Wasswa, Austine Kisomose, and Elijah Ssemambo are among those who have been hurt, according to school records.

Based on preliminary police investigations, it seems that the fire was most likely caused by an electrical short circuit.

The school remained closed to the public at the time this report was filed, even for parents who had hurried there to pick up their kids.
