Robert Tukamuhebwa, the Deputy Resident District Commissioner of Kisoro, has ordered police to detain school administrators who have started the academic year earlier than the scheduled date.

The Ministry of Education and Sports has published an official school calendar, with February 5th as the official start date of the academic year.

Speaking with our reporter on Tuesday, Tukamuhebwa voiced worry about hearing about other institutions starting their classes earlier than the scheduled time, which he considered to be against the law.

He has ordered the police and District Education Officers to take action against school owners who have started the new term early, perhaps resulting in prosecution, in reaction to these reports.

Emmanuel Mwunvaneza, the Kisoro District Education Officer, also attested to having received information that other schools, including Kisoro Baptist School, Standard Secondary School, Real Quality Primary School, and Kisoro Vision Secondary School, had already begun their academic programs.

Mwunvaneza announced that they have launched an operation and that any administrators who are discovered to be holding lessons prior to the formal start of the semester would be arrested and have their school licenses revoked.
