Officials of Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) in kigezi region have today officially awarded Kigezi region boy’s trophy to Administration of Makobore High School.
Makobore High School claimed the boy’s trophy following a ban that was imposed to Bishop Comboni College Kambuga.
Bishop Comboni College-Kambuga in Kanungu district was instructed to return the trophy of the Kigezi zonal Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association boys’ championship (USSSA games) due to the discovery of fielding an ineligible player.
During the games held on 7th April, 2024 in Rukiga district, Bishop Comboni College-Kambuga emerged as the winner for the Kigezi region, defeating Makobore High School from Rukungiri in a penalty shootout after a goalless draw.
However, allegations arose while playing against St. Mary’s College Rushoroza from Kabale district and Bugagari Secondary School from Rukungiri district, accusing Bishop Comboni College Kambuga of fielding an ineligible player named Edmond Tumukunde.
St. Mary’s College Rushoroza and Bugagari Secondary School administrators provided evidence that Tumukunde had used fake documents, including a false date of birth that did not match his national identity card information.
However, Onesmus Rukundo Rurihoona, the Chairperson for USSSA games in the Kigezi region confirmed that investigations found Bishop Comboni College Kambuga guilty of the accusations.
As a result, the school was instructed to return the trophy to Makobore High School, the rightful winner.
Since then Makobore High School never received the trophy until today when officials of Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) in kigezi region handed it over to school administration led by the head teacher Mr. Arineitwe Gad at a function held at Rukungiri Inn Hotel in Easter Division Rukungiri Municipality.
Speaking at the function, the chairperson Rukungiri District sports committee Mr. Dan Bahamire Ahimbisibwe hailed students of Makobore High School for being calm and patient since they were declared winners of Kigezi region boy’s trophy.

Dr. Elisa Rutahigwa the Rukungiri municipality legislator on the function thanked Makobore High School administration for the effort they put in to restore its Glory confirming his presence during the celebrations.
