Kyabugashe Senior Secondary School reclaimed the girls’ football trophy in Rukungiri district Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) competitions at Rukungiri main stadium yesterday Saturday.
Following their 2-0 victory over St. Jerome SS Ndama, Kyabugashe SS was awarded the trophy.
In related news, Bishop Ruhindi SS successfully defended the boys’ football championship following a 1-0 victory over Makobore High School in the second half.
Speaking as the chief guest following the game, Rukungiri Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Mr. Nsubuga Bewayo Stephen praised the sportsmanship displayed by all football teams, calling it the first peaceful tournament since he began serving the district.
RDC Nsubuga commended the teams that took part and urged others who didn’t to join them, pointing out that games are a great way to find young people’s skills and help them make a life.
He gave Ugx. 500,000 to help organize the teams that will represent the Rukungiri district at the region level.

The chairperson for Rukungiri Secondary Schools head teachers, Mrs. Allen Kiyasimire, praised her colleagues for encouraging their teams to use parental resources and showcase their abilities.
Kiyasimire continued, saying that as leaders, they are dedicated to ensuring that competitions are always peaceful, and that this will be realized when schools forbid non-students from participating in these events.

According to Rukungiri Sports Committee Chairperson Ahimbisibwe Dan Bahamire, more schools participated in sports this year than in prior years.

The four schools that will represent Rukungiri district in the region are champions Kyabugashe SS, Bishop Ruhindi, Makobore High School and St. Gerlads SS Nyakibale.
