PICTORIAL: Over 930 Immaculate Heart Girls School Nyakibale patriotism students passed out

Over 930 students from Immaculate Heart Girls School Nyakibale in Rukungiri district have passed out today after undergoing one-week intensive training on patriotism.

During the pass out ceremony held at school’s playground, Col. Justus Rukundo the commandant of OlivaReginald Tambo Leadership SchoolKaweweta who was the chief guest representing Commissioner National Secretariat for Patriotism Uganda Miss Hellen Seku said the training help schools instill discipline among the learners as well as driving them to develop love for the state and the environment they live in.

Col. Justus said patriotism is one way of trying to shape a person to be a good citizen and further appealed to the students to first love themselves and then love East Africa and Africa at large to be able to benefit from the continent.

Col. Justus nevertheless advised those with bad perception towards patriotism to style up especially those who say patriotism is for President Museveni and NRM party saying it’s only through Patriotism that a person can develop love for oneself.

Col. Rukundo, on the other hand, cautioned the students against indiscipline acts like alcoholism, smoking and prostitution that could ruin their lives, adding that patriotism is a strong pillar of development since it is the basis of strong homes, admirable communities and respectable nations.

Nsubuga Bewayo Stephen the Rukungiri Resident District Commissioner (RDC) during the pass out ceremony advised young people to show responsibility and avoid misuse of the internet.

RDC Bewayo said although technology (the use of smart phones and computers) has provided tremendous opportunities for education, there are also risks that should not be glossed over.

He however, exhorts students to preserve the environment as a means of demonstrating love for their own country.

Among the patriotic students at Immaculate Heart Girls School Nyakibale who passed out today were Najuna Melisa and Nayebare Antoneti.

They talked about their experiences and the skills they learned from the training, which will help them in their daily lives, such as discipline, loving their own country, and financial management.

The National Secretariat for Patriotic Corps also referred to as NSPC was established in 2009 by H.E the President of Uganda.

It is a National Strategic initiative by the president to indoctrinate the norms and values of patriotism to all students and the youth of Uganda.
